Penn 525 Mag T

In place of the sliding adjustment the 525 Mag T has an external knob on the left side plate that moves a single, large rare earth magnet towards or away from the spool. Wound fully in the magnetic effect against the revolving spool allows almost foolproof casting, while with the mag all the way out there is almost no braking and little spool control.

The secret is to adjust the magnet position to suit conditions. For normal fishing with reasonable size baits and 5oz to 6oz of lead start off with the knob all the way in then back it off half a turn. If the reel is too slow try another half turn out.

Alter the braking half a turn at a time until the spool is running at the right speed for you in the prevailing conditions. You can back off the magnet once the lead is decelerating to add a little distance at the end of the cast. Don’t forget to reset the magnet before the next cast!

Gear Ratio : 6:1
Brakes : Single rare earth magnet with screw adjustment
End Tension : Set end float so there is a little lateral movement
Fishing Tune : Red Rocket Fuel and start with the mag all the way in, move half a turn at a time
Pro's : Total control in all situations
Con's : None
